题目:

Demand for gas and oil is increasing and so finding new sources in remote and untouched areas is a necessity.

Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

关键词: gas and oil, remote and untouched areas

1. Gas and oil:

Petroleum industry

Environmental impact:

water pollution - responsible for water pollution - refining and oil spills
Air pollution - The combustion(燃烧) of fossil fuels produces greenhouse gases and other air pollutants as by-products.

Climate change- The greenhouse gases due to fossil fuels drive global warming.

2. Remote and untouched areas:

我引用雅思阅读中的一句话简明的说一下(剑桥雅思5p86页):These regions are fragile(脆弱)( highly vulnerable to abnormal pressure).

(Drilling for non-renewable energy resources is incredibly damaging to the ecosystem and these remote areas are often in sensitive places, such as the Arctic or National Parks in the United States and Canada.)

因此,damaging these untouched areas is too much of a risk.

(They used to sleep on the ice, dive down, eat the food,  easy.)

然而现在,冰面融化后,它们不得不上岸生存(there's no option but to come to land),想吃到东西,就要游上百米,跳悬崖,而这一跳可能就是死亡。( Now, they're swiming a hundred miles and then climbing cliffs. They are exhausteed and falling down and are either being killed falling or just crushing each other. )

(They get internal injuries and they just lie there.) (This is the sad reality of climate change.)

(Solar, wind and tidal energy could replace our reliance on oil and gas.)

As countries around the world continue to modernise and develop, there is more consumerism(消费主义), industry, and transport and a corresponding need(一个与之相应的需求,就是指与前面所说的现代化发展相应的需求) for more gas and oil. One option to meet this demand is to find it in otherwise untouched and remote places, such as the North Pole (具体化). However, I believe that doing this is not the right solution.

There are benefits to such a strategy. This is firstly the fact that people wish to improve their living standards, particularly in developing countries, and fuels such as oil and gas allow this as they enable the heating of homes, the running of cars and planes, and the production of goods.(大家可以使用的,人类为何需要能源的例子) All of these result in higher living standards, and thus we need to keep finding new sources since we will eventually run out.(好搭配:用光,耗尽+能源、资源)

However, despite this, there are major problems with exploiting untouched and remote locations. One issue is that we will end up potentially jeopardising(原型:jeopardise-动词-危害) what are beautiful landscapes. For instance, an area which countries would like to drill is the Antarctic, home to many glaciers and animals such as polar bears and penguins. Drilling here would harm the habitat, and in particular, any spillages(溢出,比如天然气溢出会危害环境) would be disastrous(adj.灾难性的,损伤大的,例句:Pollution can have disastrous effects on the delicately balanced ecosystem.) to  the environment.(划线部分为大家可以直接背诵的好例子)

Not only this, due to heath issues and global warming we should no longer be seeking to use such forms of energy. It is evident that the use of these fuels on a wide-scale(adj. 大规模的;广泛的) has led to(due to和lead to都是很好的表示因果的方式,替换because/because of) the pollution of many cities and the subsequent poor health of its citizens where car use is so high. Also, carbon dioxide is getting released into the atmosphere, and this may be endangering our very existence. Therefore, we should be aiming to utilise more eco-friendly options(更环保的选择) such as wind and sun for power and electricity for cars.

To conclude, although there is an advantage of finding new places to get oil and gas, which is that we can sustain and improve our living standards, the negative impacts outweigh this as we will damage those environments, as well as continue to harm our health and the planet.

One option to do sth is ……( 达成某事的方式之一是…..)

One option to meet this demand is to find it in otherwise untouched and remote places.

There are major problems with doing sth.

There are major problems with exploiting untouched and remote locations.

It is evident that ……

It is evident that the use of these fuels on a wide-scale has led to the pollution of many cities and the subsequent poor health of its citizens where car use is so high.

To conclude, although +反方观点, which is that+文中反方观点论证总结,  the negative/positive impacts outweigh this as +文中我方观点总结.

To conclude, although there is an advantage of finding new places to get oil and gas, which is that we can sustain and improve our living standards, the negative impacts outweigh this as we will damage those environments, as well as continue to harm our health and the planet.
